Personal Development lessons at Fulwood Academy provide pupils with the opportunity to increase their understanding of key issues facing them in the world beyond Fulwood. This includes building upon the health and wellbeing education at KS3 and exploring topics around post 16 options, employability and finance education. Personal Development is a core non-examined subject at Fulwood Academy and pupils will receive 2 lessons per fortnight in Years 10 and 11

What will the course involve?

The topics currently covered at Key Stage 4 in Personal Development are:

• Relationship and Sex Education (RSE) – building upon KS3 learning and embedding important concepts.
• Taking Responsibility for My Own Health – focussing on both physical and mental health.
• Employability – planning for future careers
• Finances Education – developing and understanding of financial products, budgeting and financial ethics
• Study Skills – developing revision techniques and exploring ways to manage mental health and well- being throughout KS4 and beyond
• Preparation for Post 16 – Providing pupils with information about choices post 16 and an opportunity to complete college/apprenticeship applications and create CV’s.

The curriculum is subject to change based on the needs of pupils throughout the year.

How will I be assessed?

Although Personal Development is a non-qualification subject, pupils will still be assessed on the knowledge they have gained throughout the topics studied to check for understanding and will also be expected to engage fully in group discussions and complete all work set.
