Welcome to the Library webpage! On here you will find links to websites that will help with homework and research, show library events, book reviews and much, much more! Use the links on the left of the page to find out more about what happening in the library – there are always competitions and activities going on that you can take part in.
If you need help with homework, a good book to read or a decent DVD to watch Mrs. McGlynn, or one of the fantastic Student Librarians, is always on hand to help you out and recommend the best items for you. If you would like to become a Student Librarian speak to Mrs. McGlynn in the Library – students from any year group have the opportunity to apply.
The Library is open before and after school, at breaktime and lunch time so come along and choose from thousands of books, plus magazines, newspapers, periodicals and DVDs!
Sixth Form students – the library stocks a variety of resources to help with your chosen subjects; including course text books and periodicals. There are also prospectuses for each University available for you to look at. Mrs. McGlynn is also on hand to help with research and study skills.
Fulwood Academy Library has undergone a number of changes in recent years, including the introduction of thousands of new books. The library stocks a wide range of fiction and non-fiction texts to aid study and for students to read for pleasure. In addition to this there are magazines, newspapers and periodicals for students to develop their knowledge.
Students take an active role in the running of the library service. They are encouraged to apply for the role of ‘Student Librarian’ where they issue and catalogue books, develop displays and recommend books to their peers. All Year 7 and Year 12 students complete a Library Induction programme to develop their information literacy and research skills.
There are a number of extra curricular activities for students to take part in including workshops, such as story writing, illustrations and story telling, Lego Club, which meets in the Library once a week after school, and visits from popular authors. The homework club provides students with the opportunity to complete work and enhance their study skills.
The Library is currently undergoing changes to develop resources for Sixth Form students with support from each department. There is a comprehensive careers section offering advice and support to students through books and leaflets as well as college and university prospectuses.
The aims of the Library:
The Library is an accessible, safe, friendly environment that welcomes all Academy students and empowers them to reach their potential. It is the ‘hub’ of the Academy, popular with students and staff alike.
